I'm really sorry to hear about your situation, rtwithosa. I had an
MMA planned for November, but my insurance denied it because
the felt my AHI wasn't high enough. I was fortunate in that Dr
KL was able to guide me through the process (another sleep
study; AHI doubled from about 16 to about 32; resubmit;
preapproved).

It may be possible for your surgeon to appeal Blue Cross
Anthem's decision. It seems that you have a reasonable
argument against the other surgeries; if you can convince the
powers that be that a UPPP would most likely not help (and
possibly hurt) and tongue reduction surgery is generally not
thought to be very effective, you might have a chance.
