Posted by often_awake on February 16, 2011 at 00:13:18:Can't believe another week has passed. Time has really been flying by lately.
There's not much to report, but I'll give it a shot. Like many others, I've benefitted from reading about other people's journeys, so I feel a sense of obligation to anyone out there contemplating having an MMA.
I have minimal pain at this point in time. I had a dull throbbing in my chin, but I found that applying an ointment (Aspercreme Heat) helped immensely. It's basically gone now.
Dr KL sentenced me to 5 weeks with the arch bars. But I've passed the half way point, and the end is in sight. I don't like the liquid diet, but over time I've come to a better understanding of what works for me. As someone pointed out to me, when else in life can you lie around drinking milkshakes all day?
The biggest issue for me right now is sleep. I read about people sleeping 9-10 hours at 3 weeks, but I'm not. Last night I slept only 5 hours. The funny thing is that I feel just about recovered outside of issues related to my jaw. I almost feel as if I never had the operation; my energy is not at 100%, but that may be because of the lack of sleep more than the surgery. I was running 3 miles a couple of times a week before the surgery, and I'm sure I could do that now were it not for my healing jaw.
Still, things are getting better, and I've read enough of the noncpap forums to know that it's still early yet. And I have the nagging suspicion that giving up caffeine would help with my sleep. I also feel thankful that my recovery is occurring at a time when there's so much technology to make life easy. I splurged on streaming Netflix and a Kindle and am enjoying both of them.
Thanks for reading!
