Half-way through the third day of chipmunkedness, Ensure and Hulu. Swelling is still going up, with a peak about an hour ago when I went on a quick walk with my wife and bumped into three of four friends. One of them even said she "wouldn't have noticed my cheeks unless I said something", but that's a blatant lie - I look ridiculous (but happy!).
Although I am still taking the drugs, I feel the pain is slowly fading away. The biggest issue is not having enough face to fit all this new tissue I seem to be growing. I will be meeting with my surgeon tomorrow, and he plans to shut me back up after taking my initial bands off the day after surgery. Still don't really know why, but I love the freedom.
As for sleeping: I got about 6 hours last night, after two days of morphine-induced insomnia at the hospital. It was amazing, but hard to say how the apnea is going, since my system is still filled with drugs. I didn't wake up in sweats or gasping for breath, so I'm hopeful. I have long hoped that I would respond positively to this option, since (1) I responded well to dental appliances, (2) I mostly have hypopneas and (3) I am 29 and reasonably fit. Still keeping my fingers crossed though, because the surgery would feel horrible without the light at the end of the tunnel.
Also, spring has finally arrived in Boston, so I am hearing kids playing and people enjoying themselves outside our apartment. Having surgery in these conditions is much nicer than suffering through the winter with freezing metal on your bones and an underlying risk of winter-induced depression. In short, summers are awesome and things are looking up for chippie.
