All -

I will be hitting two weeks of chipmunkness tomorrow, and wanted to share a few updates from the last week.

In short, my energy levels are at about 70 percent of normal, and my swelling is at about 30 percent (i.e. still a bit to go). The second week has been so much better than the first week, which was filled with pain, tv and my own little pity party. This week, our friend's labradoodle has remained planted next to my couch, helping me turn those blue feelings around. He also helped make sure that I take daily walks, so I've been building up to 3-4 miles + a few errands, which now leaves me tired, but not exhausted.

As for sleep, things are so much better! I am finally sleeping flat and on my side, which makes the nights go by much smoother. I sleep about 10 to 11 hours each night, and wake up feeling about the same as I did on CPAP, i.e. a little groggy but fine overall. Hopefully, it will get even better from here.

As for issue, the biggest one is that I still mouth breath, and hence wake up with a very sore throat. To combat this issue, I reluctantly shaved my beard in order to tape my mouth shut. This has been great for my sleep, but I sorely miss my red and blonde beard, since it was covering up the "wierdness" of my face so nicely. I have never been able to grow one before, since I had a military career, followed by a stint in management consulting; both occupations that generally require a clean-shaven face. I have ordered one of those oral shields that goes in front of your teeth to stop mouth breathing, and hopefully this will help me break my silly tape habit, allowing my cheeks to once again embrance rugged beardedness.

Also, my midline is still a few mm's off, but my ortho thinks she can fix this with a few elastics next week. That will be the first time I have had bands on after day 1.

Take care everyone!

Erik
