I don't have much good news, unfortunately.

Before my MMA, my AHI was about 31. Afterwards (about 4 months post-op) it was 30. Sleep architecture, etc., are all about the same. I feel a bit better than I did before, but not drastically so. The surgery certainly wasn't a game changer. My airway is nevertheless apparently quite large, and so Dr. KL was "shocked" by my sleep study results.

The one good thing that's come of this is that I can now tolerate CPAP better in some fashion. While I'm still very tired, things are somewhat better than before.

Given my lack of improvement, Dr. KL is reluctant to perform further surgeries. The problem I have is that I'm hardly living life to its fullest with CPAP (although I do acknowledge that things may improve more over time). I did consult with Dr. Christian Guilleminault, and he said that I still have a long soft palate and significant tonsil pockets which may improve with the pharyngoplasty. But he also said he couldn't guess the probability that it would have a significant effect.

I've been thinking over the relative merits of the pharyngoplasty and keep changing my mind. It's painful, expensive, and another burden for my family. On the other hand, it might help. I do constantly have the feeling that there's something in my throat; I had this feeling before the surgery, even to the extent of feeling that my voice was different, but I don't know whether this is really related to my tonsils/palate or whether I'm just trying to convince myself to try another surgery.

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from those of you who've had this procedure after having an MMA.
