Just a little update on this, in case anyone is reading this far down the page.

I've taken out the oropharyngeal airway and just using the homemade jaw retaining thingy with the AutoPAP set to 5. I'm finding it works just as well without the discomfort of a hard plastic tube inserted into the throat.
