Posted by Chiron on August 21, 2011 at 15:33:08:My recovery is plodding along. Glad to be past the nasal drainage phase which was causing me coughing problems and making it hard to sleep. A combination of saline rinses of the sinuses and Dr P's suctioning of them got all the gunk out and I can breath through my nose now. Now that that I'm coughing, sleeping pretty well which gives me hope that I'll have successful result.
The whole recovery process feels like a really long haul. The 'phases of op-recovery' that seattlebill posted has been very helpful. I've definitely hit the doldrum phase. Dr P says my recovery is coming along a head of schedule and I think that means I'm in the doldrums earlier than usual. Thinking of starting to work from home in order to keep my mind occupied.
Before the surgery I had spent too much time thinking about what the worst part would be. I think I have my answer now. I've developed a sensitivity in my lower left jaw, right where screw connecting the wire to the arch bar goes into the jaw. Cold beverages, sugary beverages and the water pik can all set it off and it hurts like hell when it gets agitated. Talked to Dr S on my last visit about it (Dr P is out of town) and he says that there's not much that can be done about it and the sensitivity will likely remain till the arch bars come out and suggested I up my Advil dose. When that spot doesn't get set off, I don't have much pain at all so haven't been taking much of anything. So, I've been trying to avoid setting it off. Only had one incident yesterday and that was due to drinking something straight out of the fridge.
