I am with the commuter on this one, and will add my voice as one who has had the MMA. Stage I surgery did not work for me either and I remained severe. MMA surgery in March changed my life. In just a few months I went from being very ill after a life of apnea and heading for disability, to recently completing a two day, 155 mile charity bicycle ride for MS. I made good time too!
Your note brought back to me some negative thoughts that I was having back in March and April. I kept saying: "All these years wasted... What would my life have been like if I had just known to do this earlier?" I have a good wife, so she caught the negative progression and told me to get into the now and forget about the past.
Nothing is perfect. I had a study recently and they pronounced me mild apnea (hugely improved), but cured if I slept on my side, so I am working on that now. I feel fantastic.
I am not sure on the particulars of your insurance situation, but I do have a note on here you can search for with my strategy. I know that for me, one of the prerequisites was having demonstrated that I had worked to comply with a treatment, in my case CPAP.
