I had a UPPP procedure done about a year ago along with tongue ablation which dropped the number of apneas from 113 per hour to 56 but it did not get the job done. 3 weeks ago I had an MMA together with a tongue advancement procedure, procedure took 6 hours to complete cause my jawbone was so dense. The first week was terrible and I really couldn't sleep comfortable without my cpap but the surgeon told me that my nose was congested and soon I will breath perfectly. The surgeon was right, after 5 days I was strictly breathing through my nose with no problems and finally to be able to sleep for once in my life was the best experience ever. What's unique about my case is that I never had to do any orthodontics braces on my teeth, my upper jaw was less advanced than my lower jaw. In the MMA procedure I killed two birds with one stone by correcting my bite and increase my airway. When I was around 12 years old my nose was broken by driving my bike straight into a tree head on which made me get nose surgery the next day. I believe that this trauma to my nose retarded the growth of my upper jaw and as I got older it just stayed in the same position while my lower jaw grew and moved forward. My doctor has never operated on anyone with an MMA and also correcting the bite without making them get braces, I really got lucky!!!

I noticed my stamina during exercise has doubled and I rarely get any shortness of breath. I am so glad I got this surgery, my problems are over and I can breath fine at night. I only wish I did this 25 years ago, sleep apnea over the years gave me diabetes, weight gain and high blood pressure. Before I was on cpap for the last two years and life was fine but I wanted to be cured. My question to everybody else is, have you guys noticed an improvement in your health by sleeping less, eating less and more energetic during the day? I didn't think that I would get any healthier after the MMA surgery but I am, I think CPAP does help you overcome sleep apnea but does not give you the true benefits by being able to sleep and breath on your own which is now my case. Anyone else have similar experience?
