I know that docs must have a success definition and track the numbers, bet this seems seriously flawed. First of all, the RDI,AHI numbers on a sleep study often don't match how a person feels and the impact to their lives. Sometimes a person will still have high RDI but have feel greatly improved. I think the threshold for even scoring these numbers changes regularly.

My suggestion is to ask people who have had MMA and whether they think it was worth it or not. 99% will say yes. There are a few with botched surgeries that say no, but most of them want to redo it. I'm sure you'll hear from one of them on this thread.

My opinion: It's critical to select a surgeon who has done MMA to treat APNEA for years and years.

I don't know the exact answer to your last question but I'm gonna take a stab at it. When a surgeon is trying to fix your bite, he focuses on that goal when selecting the final placement and alignment of the bones. When trying to fix the airway, he moves as far forward as possible while trying to minimize the impact to your facial look.

Hope that helps.
