I checked out both of those websites. They
offered corrective jaw surgery mainly for for
bite/teeth alignment or cosmetics purposes. The
goals of MMA surgery are to enlarge the airway.
Therefore, the degree of jaw advancement is much
greater than traditional orthognathic surgery. I
believe Dr. Kasey Li discussed this in his
previous posts on this board. He goes by the name
"sleepsurgeon" Also check out his "Ask A Sleep
Surgeon" column under non-cpap options. There is
a lot of good info. there. I had my surgery
performed by Dr. Li. His office staff handled all
the procedure codes. I would not go to a surgeon
who has little experience in doing mma surgeries.
I've heard a lot of horror stories out there. I
heard of one lady who got severe nerve damage from
an improperly done MMA surgery. She is now on
permanent disability. More commonly, I hear of
people whose jaws were not advanced enough and
unfortunately MMA revision surgery is difficult.
If I were you, I would get it done with Dr. Kasey
Li or the surgeons at Stanford or at least do a
consultation with them, just to hear there
opinion. Only oral surgeons are qualified to do
MMA. MMA is oftentimes performed by both an oral
surgeon and an ENT. Fortunately, Dr. Li was both.
Check out his website www.sleepapneasurgeon.com.
