Congratulations on your surgery. Will you be
doing a post surgery sleep study? I read an
interesting article by Dr. Christian Guilleminault
which said that central sleep apneas actually
increase for up to six months after mma
surgery/tracheostomy surgery as the brain adapts
to the new air flow. This is why they recommend
waiting at least 6 months for a post op sleep
study. Ultimately the mma surgery did not work
for me. Dr. Li was kind enough to refer me to an
ENT in UCLA for a permanent trach done on 11/29.
The recovery process had been more difficult than
expected and my fatigue is slowly improving. My
brain is slowly adapting as its been sleep
deprived for many years now. The trach is very
easy to clean and care for and the surgery was not
painful but the after math was - lots of coughing,
mucus, difficulty breathing. Just thought I'd give
everyone an update on my situation.
