Dr. Li said that I have a floppy airway. Post mma surgery, I could still feel my tongue collapsing unless I slept on my side at a 45 degree angle with my head and chin tilted upwards so I think a large part of the obstruction was as the base of tongue. I read that if there was still apnea after mma surgery than it was most likely a base of tongue issue. I asked Dr. Li about possibly doing a genioglossus/hyoid advancement but he said the success rates of these surgeries were not as good as mma and he could not guarantee success. Personally, I also think my brain is very sensitive to respiratory events.
