Throat dryness, surgery + 5 years

I'm a long ways past my apnea surgeries where they took tonsils, uvula, and part of the soft palate. I had given up on CPAP because even with the humidifier my mouth and throat got so dry that I was waking up constantly for water. Sad to say that although I seemed to sleep a bit better than with the CPAP, the dryness issue has finally become nearly unbearable and my sleep is as poor as it has ever been. I'm thinking and feeling that with so much of the palate gone, there is a different and increased airflow breathing through my nose which simply dries out these areas. The surgery may have also affected saliva glands and that may be part of the issue. At this point I'm not at all sure just what is waking me up....the dry mouth and throat, or is the apnea back in force. I do know that my throat is SO dry sometimes that I can barely even swallow.

I'm buying a humidifier this week but am not real hopeful it will help. I'm hoping someone here has been up against and conquered this problem and can recommend something that helps with the dryness. I'm thinking there must be some sort of protective throat spray that could keep things moister during sleep. Has anyone had this problem and found some relief?!?

Thanks so much!
