Hi, 2003nc,
I am so sorry that you did not have a good hospital experience at Stanford and realize that to suggest that this is an anomaly offers you no comfort. I, too, have battled with severe sleep apnea; and I'd like to think I've won the war after having a total of five surgeries with Dr. KL at Stanford, including an MMA and an MME.
My experience did not at all mirror yours, and I've had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know more than twenty-five people who had sleep apnea procedures at this hospital. Pre op, OR, ICU, recovery, a semi private room--you name the location and I was treated well by all including the maintenance person.
I'm in good company with WesternJoe, as I too had a freight train snorer for a roommate. (One nurse tore apart her purse trying to find a pair of ear plugs.) I know that my surgeon requests a private room, but there are no guarantees.
These surgeries are not easy, as I'm sure you know; and I agree that professionalism and compassion go a long with when one is suffering. Every time, which was often, I felt Dr. KL's hand on my wrist, following my number of procedures, I took such comfort and reassurance knowing that everything was going to be just fine.
I'm not here to advise; but please feel free to contact the Sandman should you want to talk outside of these posts. I hope you feel much better soon. All the best to you, learian3
