Robin I had my surgery on Oct. 19 - at 1 week the back of my throat was still white & yucky. I stayed on pain meds for a total of 2 weeks, and through about day 10 I wanted to take my next dose 1/2 to 1 hr. before it was scheduled. For me, by the end of the 2 weeks pain was down to a tolerable level (using aspirin, etc. on an as needed basis.) I did manage to begin eating a more normal diet about day 10, but up to that time majored in warm tea yogurt, smooth soups, etc. Hang in it does get better.
