Posted by Maria on January 19, 2001 at 10:35:54:Hello, My doctor gave me this site (shoulda found it on my own, but didn't) I thought I was the only one that "fell asleep" while driving. Shucks, seems like that isn't anything new here. Anyway after going though MANY tests, including a misdiagnosis of Diabetes (at least I lost some pounds), I came back to a specialist (EENT) who had me get a “sleep test” and CPAP, which I tried for several months. It didn’t help. I thought I was going crazy and my partner threatens to divorce me (even tho we aren’t married) if I didn’t stop snoring. I thought I had tried everything and it was “just me.”
Recently I developed, UGH “ mucus plugs” (anybody ever have those?)from snoring, that it actually blocked my airway so much that I was rushed (blue) to a hospital. I now know that is normal (SHEEESH NORMAL, HUH)
Anyway back to the EENT I went and lo and behold, he piles all this information on me. Which is why I am posting on this forum. I am scheduled to have UPPP and Genioglossal Advancement surgery next month. While I understand the concept of this, it still frightens me; I can’t seem to get enough information on the Genioglossal surgery. The EENT Doc gave me lots of information on the complications and recovery statistics. But I want to hear it from anyone that has gone though this. If this doesn’t work the next step is Jaw Realignment. SOOO, somebody tell me please, how painful is this, how long will I be out of the loop (recovery) and will I notice immediately if I can breathe and sleep or not? Do the “mucus plugs” go away immediately (I suppose so if the problem has been resolved). What if I can’t breathe, can I ask for a Tracheotomy to “help” me breathe while I heal? Am I being paranoid? ANYBODY have any answers??????
