Posted by Sleep Deprived on January 22, 2001 at 15:57:16:I am diagonized with Sleep Apnea and using CPAP machine for the past 1 year. I am diagonized with an RDI of 24( moderate apnea). After a couple of adjustments, I am feeling quite active and refreshed for the past 2 months. Now I am scheduled for surgery to seek a permanent solution as I do not want to be on CPAP for ever since I am only 30 now. The ENT doctor wants to perform the following surgeries on the same day.
UPPP,
Septoplasty,
Turbinate Trim,
Tongue Suspension,
Tongue AdvancementI am wondering about the chances of the surgery success and also if there are any potential side effects after the surgery. I have read couple of postings where they have posted about change in voice, food particles coming out through nose etc and hence it makes me scary to go for this surgery. I have also read that performing all the above procedures at once is very risky and that the patient might even die. But my doctor said that since my RDI(=24) is low, I should be fine with all the surgeries at once.
I would like to know the experiences of other people who have gone through this, what is the success rate , are there any permanent side effects after the surgery etc.
Also I would appreciate if you know any good ENT doctor (Otolaryngologist) at Stanford University, California who is good at these surgeries.
Thanks in advance and waiting to hear from you all....
