Sorry I just read your posting.Your question just blows me away! And I’m going to be honest and say YUCK! it may save your life but it looks nasty! I hate turtle necks and scarves! I love to swim and snorkel and water ski. I don’t like drowning. And I love my husband. I know him well enough, he could never deal with it. This may seem shallow but that is the hard core truth! My question is if you have these other options why would you have a trach??????? As I see it the UPPP is the hard part. The Maxillomandibular Advancement depends upon how you want to look at it. I never really had a chin so now I get one. I get my mouth wired shut for 6 weeks. My husband is looking forward to the piece and quiet, and I’m looking forward to losing a few pounds. And if I’m really lucky it might stretch out a few wrinkles. So the down side it may make me look a bit different, who’s to say it won’t be better. As for a trach I’ve never heard anyone say “ Gee that hole in your throat sure looks cute!” I’m sorry if this offends anyone. But well-being is mind, body and soul!
