Actually no other surgeries other than what I posted...but I have seen the hyoid myotomy described as a suspension...i guess bec the the hyoid bone is suspended by attaching it to the adams apple cartilage.
For each of the three surgeries my recovery was pretty normal without complications.
Today I feel a lot better than 2 weeks ago(when I had the hyoid myotomy).
After each of the three surgeries my wife has noticed changes in my snoring-each time becoming a little smoother-but not going away. The followup sleep study done 3 months after #2 surgery (septo and more) showed a reduction of RDI from 63/hr to 19/hr. A slight increase in O2 sat from 83 to 85.
For some reason immed. following the hyoid, I did not snore when on my side...but that effect was temp. according to my wife. I now snore again but she does not detect apneas.
The main difference though is the way I feel when I just get up-much more energy and impatience for the day to start. I also don't have a post noon "crash" at work-in the past I've always felt the need for a brief afternoon siesta. For the past 5 days since returning to work, I just seem to be able to get more done.
I'm dissappointed that the snoring has returned. I am hopeful that my apnea is at a mild level and my O2 sat is above 90. I am hoping that the reeval sleep study will show enough improvement so no more surgeries- but maybe a somno for the snoring.
Dr Terris said it would take 4-6 weeks before a final reaval can be done. There is still some visible swelling and tenderness in the hyoid area.
I am hoping the healing process is continuing and the snoring can still improve...Good luck in your operation(s).
