Insurance won't approve genioplasty

Posted by eer on April 09, 2001 at 09:32:41:

Help!

The insurance just denied my husband's appeal for his genioplasty even after their paid independent consultant said that they should approve it and pay for it because it was proven & medically necessary. Somehow or another they are still saying that genioplasty for OSA is experimental/investigational. We sent everything we could think of: letters from 4 specialists, xrays, sleep studies, personal letter from my husband, and some research on surgical procedures and OSA.

Does anyone have any advice on how we can get this approved during our 2nd appeal or any places to get good research/proof, etc,? We're getting desperate. We have started looking into lawyers, but if we can't pay for the surgery then.... you get the point.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
