Provigil is used to treat narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnolence. I have been on it for over a year. Drugs may help you stay awake; but, it will not prevent the long term, adverse side affects of sleep apnea. If you do have sleep apnea - even a mild case - treat it as prescribed by a sleep specialist i.e. CPAP, UPPP, trach. Sleep disorders are a separate medical specialty for a very good reason: they can be debilitating if not life threatening.
