We got the official letter today. Their official line is that the genioplasty is unproven as a solitary procedure for the correction of OSA and therefore still experimental/investigational. Has anyone ever had just the genioplasty performed and did you see positive results (or ever hear of anyone)? I started searching medline and hoping to get to a medical library soon.
My husband has been told that the only 2 procedures that would apply to his OSA and have any effect would be the somnoplasty or the genioplasty (And all specialists agreed that the genioplasty was the better choice of the 2) because they felt that messing with the palate would cause him more (different) problems after looking at the x rays. My husband is getting desperate and says he will add another procedure even if its not necessary, if it means they will pay and that his OSA will be helped. He's just getting tired of living the way he is.
Anyone have any ideas? BTW, thanks for your advice Alamo Joe.
