Bunboy, welcome to the club.

I smoked cigarettes for 6 years after I got my trach. Kept my Jackson number 6 and later a Montgomery capped when I smoked, unless I was in a bar and wanted to freak a few people by letting the smoke billow out my trach from under my shirt. Gave new meaning to the phrase "hot under the collar". Never could blow smoke rings until I blew them through a trach.

Before everyone gets on my case, I do not condone smoking. I haven't had a cigarette in over 10 years and don't recommend that anyone take up the habit. Wouldn't hurt to have one last puff or two before quitting once and for all.

As for sinuses after a trach, I haven't had a bad cold or sinus headache since I got a trach in 1984. With a trach, I get a good nights sleep whether my sinuses are full or empty. The sleep seems to help me fight off colds and maintain a much improved immune system.

Hope your experinces with the trach continue to be positive.

Pleasant Dreams
