Posted by SleepyJen on May 22, 2001 at 22:01:02:Hello,
I've been using my CPAP machine for 2 years now, and it's done the trick as far as my OSA is concerned.
But now I've got major ear problems. I've always had allergies and rhinitis, and now I've got tubes in both ears. Nonetheless, I continue to have major pain in one ear, and the other ear drains copious amounts each night (saturates a cotton ball) from the CPAP pressure.
I've had problems with my ears (eustachian tube dysfunction) for years, even before my CPAP.
What I'm wondering is, is there any other alternative to CPAP that doesn't involve surgery? I suppose if I have to go the surgical route, I will, but I thought I'd heard something about a prosthetic device that holds the airway open. Obviously, something like that would be tough to get used to, but I figure I adjusted to the CPAP; I can adjust to a prosthetic.
I would appreciate anyone's experiences with such a device, as well as more information on what they're called, who does them (ENT vs. Pulmonary doc?).
Thanks for your help!
