I do not have experience with this, but I saw something on TV last night about a dental appliance that pulls the lower jaw forward and dissallows the tongue from sliding back and blocking the air passage. I don't know that it would help you, it depends on what causes the obstruction in your case. But, maybe someone else has actual experience and can help you further.
I also, have allergies and sometimes problem with my left ear. I usually take a mild decongestant when I am having ear problems, earlier in the evening so that the ear congestion clears up, but not so close to bed that I am prevented from sleeping.
