I guess I've never heard of them doing a UPPP under a local anesthesia. That seems odd. I think it would be more comfortable to be out for the procedure and wake up when it's done. Of course, I don't like shots in my mouth so I'd almost rather have general anesthesia at the dentist too.
When I had my UPPP, I also had a Turbinectomy and a Septoplasty so it was more work but I've still never heard anything like what your suggesting.
