It is kind of a hard call here. You were already in hell before the trach so you can't get there from here.
I like getting the sploogeys OUT. This is the most creative and accurate word I have ever heard for the decorative Dali-ish patterns on my bathroom mirror.
Usually the humidifier is only needed for a few weeks at most. I think I dumped mine at about a week. I never had O2 except for the first day in the hospital. You may have shown some abnormal sats if your doctor checked you post trach. A real competent doctor would do this. If you have one count yourself lucky!
I would run a standard room humidifier at the very least while you sleep and a whole house one if you do not cap off during the day. Your tracheal mucosa and lungs will thank you for it. The sploogey will lessen with time but getting them out is much superior to letting them build up in there.
Are you going to have a sleep study to see if you are having any other problems?
