why does cpap make teeth move?

Posted by summer on May 26, 2001 at 13:37:30:

A number of posts have mentioned that others have noticed that use of cpap has sometimes resulted in bite changes/teeth movement. As I"ve mentioned before, this has happened to me. When I awaken, sometimes my bite is completely unrecognizable, and it changes all the time. Now my lower front teeth are moving and loosening, it's very unnerving.
My question to the experts on this forum is: why does this happen to some of us? It surely seems to be related to cpap, but I don't understand why.
I am going ahead with "phase 1" surgery on June 4 (UP3 flap, GA, RF) and assume that one benefit, optimistically assuming that I no longer will need cpap, is that my teeth will stop moving. I may need some orthodontic treatment to move them back a bit. But maybe if there's some other reason for the problem, it will still occur.
Anyone out there know what's going on?
thanks a lot.
