MMA Surgery

Posted by Seadog on July 13, 2001 at 13:27:35:

A friend pointed out this site to me a couple of days ago and I have spent time going through various postings.

I was diagnosed with OAS a little over 3 years ago. While doing my sleep study, on the spot they put me on the CPAP but I was unable to tolerate the machine. I was given a BIPAP but was never able to get used to the mask. When I tried the nasal pillows, it was MUCH worse, to put it mildly!
For about 2 years I ignored it the best that I could until earlier this year. A friend suggested that I go to the U of Mich. alternative to CPAP clinic which I did.

After a review of my sleep study and various x-rays, etc. it was recommended that I undergo the MMA surgery. I am scheduled for the surgery on July 31st.

I have not seen a lot of information about after affects, other than numbness and a "look of being mad" all the time. Can anyone provide any additional information on drawbacks to the surgey itself. I don't need information on whether or not to have the surgery as I have made my mind up there. Just looking for any other "dirty little secrets" such as Alamo Joe has talked about.

Thanks!!
