Ok Lisa, know this is gona be long but I want u to LISTEN to these words. We on this list KNOW and UNDERSTAND your thoughts and frustrations. I promise you that you will get use to your trach. The hardest part of a trach is the first 6 to 8 weeks for many folks. You will eventually stop that continous coughing and all the other side affects of the darn thing. Life will get better for you because at least with the trach you will breath, and if u breath u will begin to feel more alive and as u feel more alive your depression will improve. Try with all your might to think of your trach as your hold on life, think of it as something that is finally going to help you. Try, try , try to hold on through this rough time. I feel safe in saying that ALL of us feel your pain and despair. I have had a trach so I understand the love/hate relationship, and then I began to realize that at least I was breathing better and able to finally be more active. Hold on girlfriend....life will get better for you....Cathy
