41 days postop - New Central Apnea Need Help

Posted by sherry on July 17, 2001 at 19:07:35:

I am 41 days postop UPPP, Tonsilectomy, Turbinectomy, Somnoplasty, Septo and Sinus Roto. I still have lots of swelling and a salivary gland is so swollen that I gag on it. Here is the problem. I don't snore, but my husband says that my breathing is so shallow at night, he can hardly tell that I am breathing at all. My doc says the obstructions are gone with exception of the swelling, and he feels that there is still some central apnea going on as well. The 2nd sleep study before surgery indicated central apnea events as well as obstructive sleep apnea events. I slept last night with straight Oxygen, not bipap. Could tell major difference this a.m. Has anyone had central apnea during recovery and did it correct itself. Does Oxygen alone help.
