i don't remember all that well, but i do remember my ent saying that my tongue was pushing my epiglottis towards the back of my throat; this would close off the trachea. so it may be that the you can't feel it necessarily, but the doc can see what's going on back there. i don't know. because i could never "feel" anything wrong, but he said that my tongue base was so large that when relaxed it really pushed the epiglottis back. so breathing was difficult. maybe try getting an x-ray done also. i had one done at an ortho's office. it helped my to see exactly what my throat looked like. even when i'm awake, and muscles are tight, you could tell that my airway was small because of my tongue base. hope this info helps ya!
