MMA & Scuba Diving

Posted by Bubbles on July 20, 2001 at 10:58:39:

Hello Everybody!

Backgroud - Had my MMA surgery on 3/28. I had a dive trip to Roatan planned for 6/23-6/30 (it's been planned for almost a year). One of my doctors didn't think I'd be able to dive because he didn't think I'd be able to hold the regulator in my mouth for an entire dive.

Had a great trip and did 17 dives. I only lost the regulator from my mouth once, on the 15th dive. My bite was changing everyday but there was no pain, could be that the numbness prevented me from feeling any pain. Didn't matter, I was having fun.

One important thing that I realized on the trip was that I didn't get as tired as I have in the past. These trips can be tiring because we usually take a redeye and I don't sleep much and then we get there in the morning and start diving in the afternoon. For at least 5 of the days we're there, we do 3-4 dives per day. So it's a lot more activity than I usually do.

So this is one more big indication that the surgery has been successful. I haven't had any follow up tests or sleep study yet, they want to wait another few months.

My recovery has been slow but I'm so happy with any signs that prove to me that going through all of this was worth it. I saw the surgeon after my trip and he says that I'll continue to see improvement even up to a year.

So, I hope all of you are doing well. Just wanted to check in. It's been a while since I was on the board and I've been wondering how everyone is doing.

Take care.
