Posted by Mr. K on July 20, 2001 at 19:25:35:I should let you all know that I had the MMA and GA on July 10th. After a week post-op I went back to the doctor and he did x-rays. It is amazing the amount of airway enlargement that they were able to produce. Before surgery I had a 1 mm opening after surgery it is roughly the size of an index finger. I hope all people looking into this the very best. It is a difficult surgery especially afterwards when you are trying to figure out what to eat. It can get very depressing. But hold your chin up high (no pun intended) we will all make it through this. My upper palate was moved about 10 mm, my lower was move about 15 mm and then an additional 7 mm on my GA. NO I DONT LOOK LIKE JAY LENO NOW! The surgery is quickly over for the patient but takes forever for those waiting. The next week after surgery will be the hardest and you will be weak. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids. One thing that you might be interested in buying is a MagnaDoodle Pad. It will allow you to write message to people and then erase with ease. Take care.
