Zappa,
This might get a little gross but....
It's not as bad as it sounds. I had really worried about it because I always vomit after surgery and I knew that my jaws could be wired shut and that I'd already be in pain.
All you have in your stomach is stomach fluids and blood from the surgery. So if you vomit afterwards, they use a suction to get it out of your mouth. I was still quite sedated so I didn't freak.
I am very careful not to leave the hospital without some nausea control medication because of my history. They also give you wire cutters when you go home and you have to keep them nearby at all times.
You definitely do get a stuffy nose from all the dried blood etc. When you go to the doctor, they suction out your nose and you are very thankful. The more my nose was stuffed up, the worse I felt. They also make you use Afrin to help prevent it from getting bad. You can breathe some from your mouth but it's clearly better to breathe through your nose.
Hopefully this makes sense, I'm in a bit of hurry as I write. Let me know if you have other questions.
