Posted by kevin in utah on October 08, 2001 at 05:28:13:Its been exactly two weeks since I had HS performed. My dr is very methodical, takes things one step at a time. Early May he did the RF tongue reduction. It was done on a friday and I was back to work on Monday and back on the golf course Tuesday afternoon. I only used the pain meds for the first 36 hours....iced the neck down and ate a lot of popcycles though. I had an over-night oxymetry done the last week of August and I still dropped off to just above 80% before I "wake up". Dr. David Palmer then scheduled and performed the HS on Sept 24. He wouldn't let me go back to work until 10/1, took the stitches out 10/4. He has cleared me to start golfing again on 10/12 and bowling on 10/15. I was prescribed liquid loritab for pain. I got 16 oz and a refill but I only used about 7 oz. After the HS, I noticed and immediate increase in airflow while I am awake. I still have a little difficulty swallowing and its a little uncomfortable to stretch my neck but each day it gets better. I am up to almost 3 hours of sleep at one time, haven't done that since I was a kid (and I'm doing it horizontally, not in a recliner). The dr said something about my body may have to "retrain" itself to sleep. There is still some localized internal and external swelling (very minimal). The dr said some patients take up to six weeks for that to go away but some in three to four. We're doing another overnight oxymetry the first week in Dec. Hopefully by then I will be consitently sleeping better and won't need what he calls step 3 (GA).
