My understanding is that yes, you can take too much soft tissue in UPPP and have real trouble afterwards. Then you have real trouble swollowing
afterwards.Dr. Li was very careful to make sure that my
ENT in Boston would be quite conservative when performing UPPP: we expected it likely that
MMA/GA was going to have to be the long term solution from the beginning.
Dr. Li's office analogy: UPPP is removing some of the furniture in the room; MMA/GA is expanding the room entirely by moving the walls outward.
RF on the tongue has not been as effective as
they had hoped it would be; sure would be nice if
it worked, but for most people, it doesn't seem to. I believe some of the papers showing its relatively poor performance have appeared over the last year or two.RF does seem to be a relatively less invasive way to shrink the nasal turbinates, so it looks like a good thing to help nasal congestion (one of perpetual problems). I had this done, and it was remarkably unobnoxious, and helped some.
(Evaluate all of this knowing there are many variations between patients: I also know that RF
may be appropriate for some patients).I think the best you can do is to get the best consultations you can with the best people. My only regret is having not done so as soon as possible.
Don't be shy to get multiple opinions.
