Posted by Arthur on March 30, 2002 at 14:40:46:Can anyone tell me more about jaw advancement surgery (MMA) I have already had UPPP/tonsillectomy (2years ago), Somnoplasty to the tongue (9 days ago) & turbinates (17 months ago). I have tried and could not tolerate CPAP & BiPAP. I've tried an over the counter dental device to reposition my mandible forward in front of my maxilla. Yet none of these have worked. If a dental device did not work will MMA work, since they in are in effect doing the same thing (repositioning the lower jaw)? How long are you in pain from MMA? How is the pain compared to UPPP? How long befor you notice results? Do most ENT doctors know how to do a MMA or does one need to go to a maxillofacial surgeon? According to studies what is the success rate of MMA? How long is the hospital stay? Do most insurance companies cover it? Is it considered to be an experimental procedure? Is it FDA approved for the treatment of OSAS? Thank You for you advice?
