surgery or not?

Posted by Maverick on March 30, 2002 at 21:17:57:

I was recently diagnosed with OSA. My oxygen level goes all the way down to 51%. (I was told that this wasn't a good thing). I have had a couple of friends that got the UPPP surgery and they said it was a great success. My ENT wants to schedule me for the UPPP and tonsilectomy. On the other hand I have a couple of people telling me to think long and hard about going through the surgery since it is not 100% effective . I have been on the CPAP machine for about 2 months now and have yet to get used to it. I have tried several masks but none seem to work well for me, not to mention that I get tied up in it or I will wake up and the hose is disconnected. I'm 34 years old and really don't wish to be on it the rest of my life.
I guess what I'm trying to find out is if there is anyone who has had this low of an oxygen level and has gotten the surgery. If so, would you recommend it to me or others? What do I have to look forward to?
