Hi Tuppence,
We're all rooting for you. I know it's painful, and yes, painkillers can make you dizzy and drowsy... I'm not familiar with the one you're on, but there is a link on this site for another site that will tell you all about most prescription drugs and their effects. I found it to be very helpful. I know it's hard to navigate when you're so woozy. Let me know if you can't find it.
I would recommend sleeping in a recliner or with a wedge, really anything that will help you sleep at an angle instead of flat. You want what's up there to drain. When I had my septo, I drained mucus and blood for a week while the splints were in, and then lightly after they came out for another week. I would just tape gauze under my nose and change as necessary. I also could not breathe through my nose until after the splints came out. I was told to irrigate after the splints came out, not before. Hang in there, you can do it. Keep upright as much as you can, take your meds on schedule(and write it down so that you don't double dose), and be easy on yourself.
Good luck and best wishes to you
