Whether or not one experiences trouble choking is usually dependent on how much tissue is removed. I was under the impression that most doctors are doing a modified flap version of the surgery these days. This is what I had in July of 1999. I can't inteligently explain how the cutting is different except to say that the uvula is basically tacked to the top of my mouth and while some tissue is removed, not as much tissue is removed in this process.

For me, I choke once in awhile but as time goes by, it happens less and less. A few times I've had food go up my nose but that was infrequent and hasn't happened in a long time.

As for they person that has stitches that are bothersome, get them removed. Often they don't disolve on their own and once they've been removed, it's much more pleasant. I had to have most of mine removed because they weren't dissolving.
