THANK YOU!!! I have banged my head to fall asleep and all during the night since I could first lift my head as a baby. I am so happy to have found out the name of this disorder. I would like to pass on the information I have as well. My mother took me to see specialists when I was a baby and they told her what they thought. Keep in mind that my mother is not a health care professional and this is her understanding of it all. They told her that banging the head or rocking releases a chemical in the brain that helps you relax and fall asleep. Most of the time this disorder is brought on by stress in a child's life. As you grow older, your brain actually becomes "addicted" to this chemical release and it becomes more difficult to sleep without it. I noticed I certainly bang my head more when I'm upset... Anyway, that was over 20 years ago that they told her that and she couldn't remember the name so once again THANK YOU :)
