Hi Steve,
I would LOVE to have a chat with those folks who are in that category you defined:hard-to-wake-up, but not in other defined categories such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea, etc.
I've been researching the net lately about my own situation, and this has led me to the conclusion-so-far that circadian rhythms have a great deal to do with whether you are hard to wake up or not. You may be classified as a "hard to wake up" person at 7 am, but go thru a more common and abbreviated wake up period at 9 am. But it's not acceptable to wake up at 9 am. in this society. And, so far I have not found any advice as to how to change one's natural circadian rhythm.
I would love to be a "lark" (morning person,) because it would fit a lot of my activities, but my natural pattern is that of an "owl" (night person.) I have read of light therapy, but it seems to be applicable to far more extreme cases than mine. I have found nothing on the subject of changing one's natural circadian rhythm, so I am beginning to assume that everyday circadian rhythm is beyond the control of current procedures. But when most people tell you that waking up by 7am, at the latest, is the moral thing to do...are you doomed to feel immoral because your circadian rhythm orders: "OWL!"? Look forward to a reply, since there are so few of us apparently...Eileen
