Light sleepers usually get much less deep sleep (slow wave sleep) than the hard to wake up sleepers. With the exception of a disorder making it difficult for someone to wake up due to sleep deprivation.

Slow wave sleep is the sleep that is the most refreshing and the most difficult to wake up from. We would all like to get a lot of it but as we age we get less and less. When we are young we get lots.

Some sleep disorders can keep you from entering into slow wave sleep be causing frequent short arrousals. Breathing and leg problems are the most common.

If it is causing you to have poor daytime function or excessive sleepiness you should visit a sleep lab to see what is causing it and get it fixed.
