Have you tried asking the doctor about getting him in earlier? The occassionally have cancellations, and it might be possible to get one of the openings for him. Given the possible threat to yourself and the kid (as well as to your husband), they might squeeze him in.
I hesitate to add this since it sounds like safety is really an issue, and that should be paramount, but... I would think carefully about telling a doctor you were afraid for your safety. I'm not sure what the mandatory reporting requirements might be - would your husband be considered a "threat" such that the doctor would have to report him for mental screening or something? Or for domestic violence? Or something else that you really don't want on your husband's record, but that the doctor might report either because he felt that he had to under law (I think there are penalties for not reporting something they should have reported) or because he doesn't understand sleep disorders.
Again, your safety comes first - Cobi's ideas sound great.
