really weird problem while sleeping

For a LONG time now while I sleep sometimes I suddenly will half wake up in this "state" where I'm awake and I can see and hear everything but I can't move. During this "state" my heart beats really fast like its gonna beat out of my chest and I have to manually breath faster to keep up with it. After a few seconds my heart slows back down to normal rates then it will jump back up again so that I manually breath fast again. This cycle continues until I'm able to wake myself up with force by concentrating hard enough. Any info on this scary condition?
