Rem disorder and clonazepam

I have been diagnosed with REM disorder and have been perscribed Clonazepam. I am concerned about the side effects of the drug and would like to know anyone's experiences of it in both the short-term and long-term (using it for a number of years). I would also be grateful for any alternatives people have found. Thanks
