My latest Sleep Paralysis episode

Posted by simon on February 14, 2005 at 06:46:34:

I'm 42 years old, I had my first sleep paralysis experience in my late twenties, for a few years the occurrences would happen every couple of weeks, but since I started reading about my condition on the internet a few years ago, the occurrences are now around three or four a year.

The first few years, not knowing what was happening, were quite frightening experiences, the feeling of something, some kind of malovolent entity/demon, kneeling on me, pressing down on my chest, pinning down my arms as I tried to fight back. Sometimes the 'encounter' would last for as long as, what seemed like, 20 mins. I would wake up sweating, heart beating very fast, scared sometimes about going back to sleep, as sometimes I would just go back into another paralysis experience.

However since I started reading about other people's experiences online, along with some medical professionals opinions I began to understand what was happening to me. So now when the encounters happen I am able to fight this "entity", break free from its grip in less than a minute, sometimes just a few seconds, and wake up, heart still beating fast but no sense of fear, almost a sense of victory.

In sleep paralysis state I now appear to be talking to this entity, reasoning with it, a conversation along the lines of "I know what you are so I'm not frightened anymore" Crazy stuff huh?

Anyway I thought you might like to hear about my latest episode just a couple of nights ago, it was a different twist on my usual experience. This time it was not a spirit or demon but a giant insect, with one limb/proboscis stuck in my chest drawing blood. I beat it off and woke up, the whole experience seemed to be about 15 secs.

I don't intend to seek any medical assistance in this matter as the experiences are fewer than before, but I still like reading other people's experiences online, learning more and more about this strange disorder. Why it affects some but not others for example.

Anyone out there encountering insects instead of demons?:)
