sleep phobia?

Posted by iamsparticus555 on February 22, 2005 at 13:43:01:

hi,since last october i have been feeling very uneasy when i see the sun going down because i know in the back of my mind that i will have to go to sleep soon.this probably sounds really odd but its almost as if i fear the concept of going to sleep.i'm not afraid of going to sleep,in fact i would love to just drop off as soon as i placed my head on the pillow but with me it doesnt seem to work like that. i need constant noise or activity or someone near by.i have tried sleeping with a tv or radio on but neither work because i know that the cd will finish soon and i will be in silence again, and i cant have a tv on because i usually end up watching it and then not sleeping at all.i suppose i fear the silence and lack of human activity around.it sounds pathetic when written but it genuinely does scare me to be the only one left awake, i like having others around like at parties etc because then i know i am in the company of people and probably wont be the last one to fall asleep. i have also found that if i have drunk alcohol i dont have a problem sleeping but this could cause me other problems in the long run i expect. for now i am usuing sleeping pills but i dont want to get into the habit of having to constantly use then for the rest of my life. if there is anybody who has or is experiencing the same thing and has any words of help for me?That would be greatly appreciated.thank you
